A rising main busway is a busway system installed vertically through multiple floors of a building. It transmits electrical power upward from the main electrical room and can distribute power to individual floors through plug-in units.
Rising main busway is commonly used in office towers, hotels, residential towers, mixed-use buildings, hospitals and other high-rise commercial projects requiring vertical power distribution.
A typical system arrangement is: Main Transformer / LV Switchboard → Starting Busway → Vertical Rising Main → Floor Plug-in Box → Floor Distribution Board → Electrical Loads. This allows power to be distributed floor by floor through the building.
Important installation factors include floor openings, wall clearances, support spacing, spring supports, expansion allowance, plug-in box locations and terminal reinforcement. These items should be coordinated with the building layout and electrical shaft design.
Key factors include total connected load, diversity factor, busway current rating, voltage drop, short-circuit level, vertical support, expansion allowance and fire-stop or building interface requirements.
For preliminary review, it is helpful to provide your SLD, floor plans, building height, floor load schedule and busway shaft layout. Information such as the number of floors, main current rating, plug-in box current and shaft dimensions can also support system configuration and quotation.
